Huge, secluded Wyoming ranch once owned by Disney family lists at $71M. See the beauty

A secluded Wyoming ranch once owned by the Walt Disney family that is surrounded by mountains and national forest, and is located just 23 minutes from Yellowstone National Park, has hit the market for $71 million, according to Hall and Hall real estate company.

Diamond G Ranch sits about 90 miles east of Jackson Hole, near the town of Dubois. The ranch spans about 5,000 deeded acres and contains a five-bedroom lodge that has served as the owner’s residence. Other structures include a log guest house with an enclosed porch and two log cabins.

There’s an enormous century-old barn with storage on the first level and an office, boardroom and kitchenette upstairs. Another structure on the land is a 1,500-square-foot manager’s house with three bedrooms.

A nearly five-mile stretch of Du Noir Creek runs through the property, as well as a lake. The ranch sits in the Dunoir River Valley. Dramatic mountain peaks rise 11,000 feet rise above it. The wildlife on the land is extensive: wolverine, elk, wolves, grizzly bear, mountain lion, moose, antelope and more. The fishing on the property is world-class, according to Hall and Hall. Several miles of Dunoir River provide cutthroat, brown and 20-plus-inch rainbow trout.

The ranch operation is suited for summer grazing and production of grass hay for sale.

The property is extremely private because it lies at the end of a private road and envelops nearly the entire valley with three sides bordering national forestland that provides no public access through the ranch.

The owner is an LLC tied to Stephen Gordon, a former manufacturing executive who bought the ranch in the 1980s, according to the Wall Street Journal, which cited public records.

The Disney family sold the historic ranch to the current owners about 33 years ago, according to Hall and Hall.

A group of Morton Salt Company executives from the 1950s and 1960s had owned the land before selling it to the Disney family, according to a Hall and Hall representative. The cattle ranch was purchased by Retlaw Enterprises, a corporation owned by members of the family of the entertainment mogul Walt Disney in 1968.

Diamond G is “arguably the finest mountain ranch retreat in the Rocky Mountain West,” according to the official property listing. “There is virtually nothing else that one would want to own.”

James H. Taylor of Hall and Hall is the listing agent.

Editor’s note: This story was changed Aug. 8, 2022, to clarify that the Disney family once owned Diamond G Ranch before selling it to the current owner, according to a Hall and Hall representative.
