US News & World Report released its “Best Hospitals” ranking Tuesday.

Atrium Health hospitals took the top three spots in the Charlotte region, while one Novant Health hospital landed in the statewide top 10.

The Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center was ranked the top hospital in Charlotte, third-best in North Carolina and fifth-best in the Southeast. Its cancer surgeries and treatments also were recognized as high-performing by US News & World report.

Atrium Health Pineville was recognized as the No. 2 hospital in Charlotte and No. 13 in the state. Atrium’s Cabarrus hospital is tied for third in Charlotte with the CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

One hospital in Charlotte received a national ranking. Atrium Health’s Carolinas Rehabilitation center was ranked the No. 16 rehabilitation facility in the U.S.

“I could not be prouder of our Atrium Health family – physicians, nurses and support staff alike – for their unwavering dedication to our mission: to improve health, elevate hope and advance healing,” Atrium CEO Gene Woods said in a statement.

Novant’s flagship hospital in Charlotte, Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, was not ranked regionally or in the state. It received high-performing marks for colon cancer surgery, heart failure treatment, stroke treatment, and hip and knee replacements.

Novant’s New Hanover Regional Medical Center was ranked the No. 10 hospital statewide.

“We believe different hospital rating systems are a good resource for patients to make healthcare decisions that are right for them,” Novant Health Spokeswoman Robin Baltimore said in a statement to The Charlotte Observer. “At Novant Health, the rating system that we particularly measure ourselves against is The Leapfrog Group’s letter grades for safety, quality and patient experience.”

Novant facilities in Charlotte, Mint Hill, Rowan County and Matthews have all earned A rankings from The Leapfrog Group’s latest ratings.

In Rock Hill, the Piedmont Medical Center was not ranked by US News & World Report, but received high-performance marks for its heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes and kidney failure treatments.
