Home and garden show canceled

Apr. 9—The Clovis Civic Center's home and garden show set for this weekend has been canceled.

Civic Center General Manager Sarah Stevens said the cancellation was "due to unforeseen circumstances," but declined to elaborate.

Home/garden show fans aren't all out of luck. The Curry County Events Center still expects to host its show June 1-2.

"By moving Pioneer Days to May we had to push the home and garden show to June," said CCEC General Manager K.C. Messick.

Messick said the Events Center and Civic Center previously held home/garden shows on the same weekend.

"But (locations were) too spread out," Messick said. "We didn't get the results we had hoped for by combining them."

For years, the home/garden show was put together by the Eastern New Mexico Homebuilders Association. The last show hosted by the homebuilders was in 2022, according to association Executive Officer Robyne Beaubien.

"COVID shut us down in 2020 and 2021. We did it in 2022 but it was difficult to find the manpower to put on that size of a show," Beaubien said Monday.

Beaubien could not pinpoint an exact year when the home/garden show began in Clovis, but probably in the 1980s. It's been held at Hilltop Shopping Plaza, in an empty storefront on North Prince Street, and in the former Furr's Supermarket on East 21st street before moving to the Clovis Civic Center and Curry County Events Center.
