Holiday travelers with Southwest and Delta are facing a second day of flight cancellations and delays at Kansas City International Airport as a massive winter storm treks east across the country, according to flight status information.

Airlines have canceled 55 flights by Friday morning and passengers were faced with delays on 16 others, according to data by flightaware.com.

Southwest Airlines, the biggest passenger airline at KCI, issued a travel advisory saying, “weather conditions caused by winter storms are resulting multiple disruptions across the country.” It urged passengers to check the status of their flights.

At KCI, the airline has canceled nearly 40 flights and delayed seven others, according to flightaware.com.

Meanwhile, Delta Airlines has canceled 17 flights, according to flykci.com.

The cancellations and delays were not necessarily due to weather conditions in the Kansas City area.

The National Weather Service Aviation Weather Center said it didn’t expect travel conditions to improve much because of the winter storm.

“Expect delays at most airports east of the Mississippi, with #NewYork most likely to be impacted,” the center said. Travelers were urged to check with airlines on the status of their flights.
