Hit-and-run victim on Highway 99 ID’d as Ceres man. CHP looking for leads on who struck him

A 35-year-old Ceres man was killed on Highway 99 south of Taylor Road in Turlock, five minutes before midnight on Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man killed was identified as Jonathan McKnight by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

Emergency responders got to the scene and found McKnight in the number three lane of Highway 99. He was struck “several times” by passing motorists, according to CHP’s press release.

“Our preliminary investigation indicates (McKnight) was running in a westerly direction across the southbound traffic lanes,” the release says. “(McKnight) was struck by an unknown vehicle and came to rest within the traffic lanes.”

The number of vehicles that struck McKnight was undetermined as of Thursday. CHP’s release stated that all vehicles involved in the collision were unknown. The agency is investigation McKnight’s death as a hit-and-run.

The Modesto CHP office asked for anyone with information related to the hit and run to call Officer Mitchell at 209-545-7440.
