The Miami Heat will open this upcoming season at home against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, Oct. 19, as NBC Chicago reported Tuesday.

Even though the Heat advanced to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the NBA opted not to have the Heat participate in the exclusive season-opening doubleheader on Tuesday night, Oct. 18 on TNT.

According to The Athletic, the NBA is scheduling 76ers-Celtics and Lakers-Warriors on opening night.

The Heat’s second game of the season will be at home on Friday, Oct. 21 against Boston in a rematch of the Eastern Finals, as The Athletic noted. That game is expected to be televised on ESPN.

Also, the Heat will play a Monday afternoon game in Atlanta on Jan. 16, which is Martin Luther King Day.

The NBA did not schedule the Heat for a Christmas game; it’s highly unusual for a conference semifinalist not to get a Christmas game, and last season’s three other conference final teams (Boston, Dallas, Golden State) all have Christmas games.

Of the five games scheduled for Christmas, two involve Eastern Conference teams: Celtics-Bucks and 76ers-Knicks.

The Dolphins have a home game on Christmas at 1 p.m. against Green Bay.

The NBA will announce the entire schedule at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

RADIO CHANGE

Heat games are moving from 790 The Ticket to WQAM this season; both stations share the same ownership. It’s the first time since 1993 that WQAM will be Heat’s flagship station.
