ROCK HILL — Greenville High School's football team couldn't overcome a slow start on Friday.

The Red Raiders fell behind 21-7 at the half and the deficit proved to be too much as Greenville fell 24-14 to South Pointe in Rock Hill. The Red Raiders lost in the Class AAAA Upper State Championship and finished their season at 10-3.

Greg Porter's 10 wins this season were the most by a Greenville High football team since 2019. That season was Porter's first as head coach and the Red Raiders lost to Wren that season in the Upper State semifinals.

After South Pointe took a 21-0 lead to start the game, the Red Raiders were able to get on the board. Greenville senior quarterback Prometheus Franklin found Josh Sapp, a Clemson commit, for a 7-yard touchdown late in the second quarter.

Then South Pointe tacked on a 22-yard field goal to make it 24-7.

Franklin found his star wideout Tyler Brown for his second touchdown pass in the fourth quarter – but there was not enough time left for Greenville to mount a comeback.

South Pointe (12-1) will take on Beaufort for the Class AAAA State Championship on Thursday night.
