A grand jury indicted East Bridgewater's Brandon Owen on 8 charges. What we know

DEDHAM — A Norfolk County grand jury has indicted an East Bridgewater man for the slaying of his former wife and burning of her home last month in Franklin.

In a press release, the Norfolk District Attorney's Office announced that the grand jury handed up eight indictments Thursday against Brendon Owen, 47.

Indictments include: murder; armed assault in a dwelling; armed home invasion; kidnapping; arson; assault and battery DW on a person over 60; and violation of restraining order (two counts).

In a statement, Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said that after Franklin police and firefighters were called at about 7:40 a.m. on Dec. 17 to the home on Grace Lane, they arrived to find Shirley Owen "inside the burning building, her mother obviously injured, and Brendon Owen in the house.”

Owen pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment last month in Wrentham District Court.

“Today’s indictments move this matter to Norfolk Superior Court, where he will be arraigned again on the indictments in the coming weeks,” Morrissey said, adding that a date has not yet been arranged with Owen's defense attorney, Neil Madden, and the Superior Court Clerk’s Office.

Norfolk Assistant District Attorneys Anne Yas and Tracey Cusick presented the case to the grand jury.

In his statement, Morrissey applauded Franklin police, saying they were "very constructive partners with the Massachusetts State Police homicide detectives assigned to my office, and with Assistant District Attorneys Yas and Cusick as they presented this to the grand jury.”
