Governor headed to Las Cruces to break ground on reproductive health clinic

Sep. 5—Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is traveling to Las Cruces to break ground on a new $10 million clinic that will provide abortion services and other reproductive health care.

"It's a beautiful morning in New Mexico!" states a tweet from the governor's official account on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The tweet was posted just after 7:30 a.m., along with a photo of a sunrise.

The tweet stated she was on her way to Las Cruces, which is near the Texas border, to break ground on the new clinic.

"My administration remains fiercely committed to protecting women's health," the tweet states. "Stay tuned for more details."

The tweet, which generated more than 1,000 views within 30 minutes, sparked mixed reactions.

"Thank you for protecting women's healthcare!" wrote one user.

"Baby Killer — you don't deserve a sunrise," wrote another.

The groundbreaking of the new clinic has been a long time coming.

In 2022, Lujan Grisham signed an executive order that designated $10 million of her capital outlay in the 2023 legislative session to build the new clinic in Doña Ana County. The clinic is poised to provide a "full spectrum" of reproductive health care.

This is a developing story. Check back for more details.
