Georgia teen killed in shooting that left another person hospitalized, SC officials say
A teenager was killed Tuesday night in a shooting in the Midlands that also left another person hospitalized, according to South Carolina officials.
Jayvion Jones — a 16-year-old Hampton, Georgia resident — died at the scene, Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said Wednesday.
The shooting happened in the Dalzell area, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said.
At about 8:30 p.m., Jones’ body was discovered inside a vehicle on Black River Road and Edens Road, Baker said.
There was no word about what Jones was doing in the Midlands region of South Carolina.
Information about where the surviving victim was found was not available.
The surviving victim was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery, the sheriff’s office said. Further information on that victim’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or if anyone else was involved in the gunfire. Information about a motive for the shooting was not available.
No arrests have been reported, but both the coroner’s office and the sheriff’s office are continuing to investigate what Sheriff Anthony Dennis called “a suspicious death.”
An autopsy will be performed Saturday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, according to Baker.
