Fun video: Boy leaps off Tahoe snowbank, disappears under white stuff, pops up smiling

Palisades Tahoe.

A new video out of the storm-socked Lake Tahoe, California, area illustrates what 21 inches of snow being dumped in 24 hours looks like.

The video shot at Palisades Tahoe of a boy leaping off a snowbank and disappearing under the white stuff before popping back up was shot March 5, 2023 after the last storm.

At Palisades Tahoe, the season snowfall total has hit a whopping 575 inches, the ski resort reported. The upper mountain base snow depth is 224 inches.

Snowfall is hitting records at other ski resorts in the area, as well.

“The only year in our 22 year history of records that surpasses this base depth is March 6, 2017 where we had a base depth of 225 (inches),” a Palisades Tahoe representative said in an email.

Sugar Bowl Resort has had roughly 443 to 595 inches of snow since the start of the year, the Sacramento Bee reported. Kirkwood has received 560 inches of snow for its season, while, Heavenly has seen 478 inches.

Some resorts have extended their ski season. Palisades plans to be open until at least May 29.

Snow will continue throughout the week. If you plan on making a trip up the Sierra mountain, authorities are advising travelers to first check CalTrans; make sure they have a 4-wheel drive car with snow tires or chains; fuel up; and bring their own groceries before driving up to the mountains.
