Former Sixers forward Robert Covington gives love to Philly on Instagram

Former Philadelphia 76ers and current Portland Trail Blazers forward Robert Covington embodied what the process was for the Sixers in the middle part of the 2010’s decade. He was looking for an opportunity and Philadelphia being in the position they were in gave him that chance to shine.

Covington spent a little over four seasons in Philadelphia and he averaged 12.9 points and 5.6 rebounds while also morphing into one of the better defenders in the league. He made the All-Defensive First Team in 2018 when he averaged 1.7 steals per game. He was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Jimmy Butler deal and has since played for the Houston Rockets and now with the Trail Blazers.

To end 2020, Covington took fan questions on Instagram and when he was asked about the Sixers and the city of Philadelphia, he gave them some love.

Covington will never be considered anything more than a role player in Sixers history, but the organization clearly played a huge part in his success and his development. The respect he has for the franchise is clear and the feeling is mutual.
