Former NFL Executive Has Honest Take On Projected ‘QB Carousel’

When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV, attention almost immediately turned to what was supposed to be an offseason full of change within the NFL. While drama’s been high, not too many changes have actually taken place.

There’s been three quarterbacks mentioned the most this offseason: Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson and Matthew Stafford. Only one was traded, and it was Stafford. The veteran quarterback now plays for the Los Angeles Rams, who are widely viewed as a Super Bowl contender this upcoming season.

So what about Rodgers and Watson? Well, it looks like the 2020-21 NFL MVP is staying in Green Bay for at least one more year. Watson, meanwhile, still reportedly wants out of Houston, but is still faced with lawsuits which aren’t supposed to be settled anytime soon.

Simply put, the expected offseason drama hasn’t actually resulted in many concrete trades other than the Stafford and Carson Wentz trades.

Former NFL executive Andrew Brandt had a pretty honest reaction to this offseason’s quarterback carousel, or lack thereof in this case. Like the rest of us, he’s pretty disappointed.

There is still, of course, plenty of time for the Houston Texans to trade Deshaun Watson. But teams may want to steer clear until they learn more about the lawsuits Watson’s facing.

Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, appears to be staying in Green Bay for now. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Rodgers and the Packers appear to be “close” on an agreement. The agreement will keep the reigning MVP in the green and yellow for at least one more year.

There’s still plenty of time for a blockbuster trade to take place within the NFL this year. But it’s growing less and less likely by the day.
