Former MLB Outfielder Retiring To Pursue ‘NFL Dream’
Former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Dylan Cozens is officially hanging up his cleats. Earlier this week, he announced on his Twitter account that he’s going to leave baseball behind so he can pursue another sport.
“I’ve decided it’s time to chase my dream of playing in the NFL,” Cozens tweeted. “I want to thank the Phillies, Rays and Brewers organizations for giving me the opportunity to play professional baseball but more importantly the people, experiences, and memories I’ll keep forever.”
Cozens played football at Chaparral High School in Arizona, but it’s unclear if he’s in top-notch shape to compete in the NFL.
The University of Arizona actually offered Cozens a football scholarship coming out of high school. He turned it down though since he was drafted by the Phillies in the second round of the 2012 MLB Draft.

Over the course of his MLB career, Cozens had a .154 batting average, one home run and two RBI. He spent most of his baseball career in the minor league system. In fact, he was recently playing for the Milwaukee Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate in Nashville before deciding to retire.
We’ve seen Tim Tebow attempt to go from the NFL to MLB in the past. The former Heisman Trophy winner never made it to the New York Mets’ main roster though.
Hopefully for Cozens’ sake, his NFL dreams become a reality this year.
