Football Roundup: Beaufort Academy starts strong in win over Hilton Head Prep

JuniorJaxon Porter ran for three touchdowns, all in the first hall, as Beaufort Academy defeated Hilton Head Prep, 34-22, on Friday in high school football action.

Beaufort Academy led 31-6 at halftime before the Dolphins made things interesting in the second half.

Braydon Dineen had a TD pass to Te’Shaun Heyward for BA.

Jason Braymiller ran for a touchdown and Anders Askeland returned an interception for a touchdown for HHP.

Battery Creek 39, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 28

Damien Freeman had a big game in Battery Creek’s victory.

Freeman finished with 186 yards rushing and three TDs for the Dolphins. Derrick Smalls had 168 all-purpose yards and returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Daryl Blake had a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Claxton, Ga. 29, Hilton Head Island 18

Claxton picked off five passes returned two interceptions for touchdowns to defeat the Seahawks on Friday.

The Seahawks used two quarterbacks in the game. Jackson Bibee was 11-of-18 for 112 yards and a TD. Owen Bayes was 9-of-22 for 100 yards. Jake Huggins led HHI with 10 catches for 125 yards.

Troy Timko rushed for 52 yards and a TD for the Seahawks.

Chris Marable led HHI with 15 tackles, 6 for loss and Shai Thompson added 12 tackles, six for loss.

Hilton Island (1-1) will face Beaufort next week.

Fort Dorchester 21, Beaufort 6

Quarterback Zolten Osborne threw for a touchdown and ran for one as Fort Dorchester defeated Beaufort in a matchup of two of the top teams in their classifications.

Fort Dorchester is No. 2 in Class 5A and Beaufort is No. 6 in Class 3A.

Caleb Ulmer had a 1-yard TD run to cap off a long Beaufort drive and cut the lead to 14-6 with 3:22 in the third.

Fort D answered in the fourth quarter with Osborne’s 1-yard run.

Beaufort hosts Hilton Head Island next week.

Jenkins (Ga.) 34, Bluffton 21

Jenkins scored the final 20 points of the game to defeat the Bobcats.

Jaylin Linder had a 62-yard touchdown run and also had a TD pass to Max Vonhoenstraten that put Bluffton up, 21-14, with 1:46 left in the third quarter.

West Ashley 7, May River 3

Kevin Brown’s touchdown run in the fourth quarter was the difference as the Sharks lost on the road Friday night.

May River led 3-0 at halftime.

Whale Branch 19, North Charleston 8

Jakhi Pusha threw a touchdown and Mason Griffin had a touchdown run in the second half as the Warriors won their opener.

Bethesda Academy 40, John Paul II 24

Quarterback Christian Tilton threw for a TD and ran for a score in the loss for the Warriors.

Tony Hill caught a TD pass from Tilton and also ran for a score. Hill’s TD run put John Paul II up 16-12 in the second quarter.

Wilson Hall 28, Hilton Head Christian 7

Clark Kinney threw three touchdown passes as the Barons handed the Eagles their second straight loss.
