Florida Panthers’ Reverse Retro jerseys for this season are out. Take a look
The NHL on Thursday unveiled the Reverse Retro jerseys for all 32 teams for the 2022-23 season, and the Florida Panthers’ uniform is taking it back to 1998.
According to the NHL, the Reverse Retro jerseys are meant to “remix nostalgic elements of each club’s past in combinations that honor history and tradition while delivering a new experience for fans.”
The Panthers’ jersey is light blue, similar to their third jerseys from the 2009 season, with the center crest showcasing the iconic sun, crossed palm tree and stick logo that appeared on the shoulder of the 1998 jersey.
ESPN ranked the Panthers’ Reverse Retro as the best of the bunch.
“What a concept: It’s only taken nearly 30 years, but a team that plays in South Florida finally has a jersey that’s evocative of South Florida,” ESPN wrote in its review, adding that it “feels like you’re staring at a frozen blue Hawaiian through a pair of expensive sunglasses.”
“Sure,” the review continues, “seeing the alternate logo makes one realize how close that hockey stick looks to a golf putter ... but that’s also kind of thematic to the franchise, if we’re being honest.”
The Panthers will wear their Reverse Retro jerseys for seven games, six at home and once on the road. Those games:
Nov. 19 vs. Calgary Flames
Nov. 23 vs. Boston Bruins
Nov. 26 vs. St. Louis Blues
Dec. 10 @ Tampa Bay Lightning
Dec. 11 vs. Seattle Kraken
Jan. 1 vs. New York Rangers
Jan. 28 vs. Boston Bruins
The jerseys, made by adidas, will go on sale Nov. 15 for $190-$240. They can be bought in the United States at adidas.com, NHLShop.com and team stores.
