Five people hurt in two-vehicle crash in Fresno County. One car went airborne, CHP says

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon in Fresno County that sent multiple people to the hospital.

The collision happened just after 4 p.m. at S. Alta and E. Floral avenues.

Authorities said a Chevy Malibu was traveling westbound on Floral Avenue and a driver in a Ford Expedition was going northbound on Alta Avenue.

CHP Officer Carlos Medina said the Malibu didn’t stop at the stop sign and collided with the Expedition that caused the Malibu to go airborne and landed on the roof in a dry canal.

Firefighters had to extricate two people in the front seat. The right rear passenger, described to be a man in his 40s, was partially ejected, Medina said.

The driver and passenger were airlifted to local hospitals.

Three people in the backseat of the Malibu were taken by ambulance to the hospital.

The man has major injuries, Medina said. The driver and the three passengers had a complaint of pain.

The two people in the Expedition were not injured.

Medina said Floral Avenue has a controlled stop sign and Alta is not.

Multiple agencies assisted on the collision.
