First look: Myrtle Beach resort opens $3 million waterpark just in time for Labor Day

Myrtle Beach’s oceanfront Landmark Resort has opened a new waterpark just in time for Labor Day.

The $3 million project comes as hotels around the Grand Strand have sought in recent years to upgrade their amenities to better attract guests as the destination grows rapidly in popularity.

Landmark Resort, operated by Vacation Myrtle Beach, a chain of local hotels, has more than 500 rooms and is one of the largest properties in the region. The waterpark will be open seasonally, from spring to fall. Access is included for hotel guests.

“This is a momentous addition to our resort,” Vacation Myrtle Beach spokeswoman Kelly Simmons said in a statement. “We always want to provide our guests with a unique, fun and enjoyable vacation experience. Adding a new waterpark to their Myrtle Beach vacation was the perfect way to do this.”

The Ocean Boulevard resort is located just south of the heart of Myrtle Beach, between 15th and 16th Avenues South. Landmark is also located between two of Myrtle Beach’s most popular piers, Springmaid and 2nd Avenue.

Here’s what the new waterpark has to offer:

  • Three 40-foot tall waterslides that stretch nearly 240 feet long.

  • A “jungle-themed aquatic play zone” for young children, including a 4-foot-tall “lion slide” surrounded by “water jets, parrots, dump buckets, and a waterfall mushroom fountain.”

The resort also has 13 other ways for guests to enjoy the water, including large indoor and outdoor pools, two 300-foot-long lazy rivers and six hot tubs.

“These slides will be both fun and thrilling for guests to enjoy. It’s such a unique amenity to have at a Myrtle Beach resort, and we are so excited to offer this to our visitors,” Simmons said in a statement.

The waterpark will be open until Oct. 23 and will reopen next spring. Landmark Resort did not share a specific opening date for the spring.
