First Lady Jill Biden Announces Decision On Olympics
On Tuesday afternoon, the White House confirmed that First Lady Jill Biden will be attending the Olympics.
The news comes just over a week after the White House first announced she would be attending the games. However, Japan instituted a state of emergency over a rise in coronavirus cases.
Despite the concerns with COVID-19, the First Lady will be attending the games. President Joe Biden will reportedly not be in attendance, though.
“The White House confirms there has been no change to First Lady Jill Biden’s plan to travel to Tokyo for the Olympics,” White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins reported. “Jen Psaki says she will be following ‘strict protocols’ while there.”

White House press secretary Jen Psaki addressed concerns about Jill Biden’s visit to Tokyo for the Olympics last week.
“We’re well aware of the careful preparations, including the public health measures necessary to protect athletes, staff, and spectators, that the government and international committee has undertaken, which is why, as we said, we support the Games moving forward,” Psaki said.
The Olympics officially kick off on July 23.
