Police said an Ohio father is accused of using a cattle prod on two of his children for “disciplinary purposes,” according to reports.

The 34-year-old man from Florence Township, Ohio, was arrested March 13 following an investigation into reports of abuse, the Sandusky Register reported.

McClatchy News is not naming the suspect to protect the identities of the children.

The cattle prod was used on two children, ages 7 and 8, as punishment, WKYC reported.

Cattle prods emit electric shocks and are used to move livestock.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Detective Dan Orzech told the Sandusky Register.

“I don’t know what would compel someone to use a cattle prod on children,” Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth told WJW.

The father has been charged with three counts of domestic violence and three counts of child endangering, according to Erie County jail records.

The 34-year-old had been previously arrested and accused of domestic violence, WKYC reported.

He is being held on a $90,000 bond, records show.

Florence Township is about a 45-mile drive southwest of Cleveland.
