Eight people injured after MTA bus, car collide in downtown Macon Thursday evening

Eight people were injured Thursday afternoon in downtown Macon when a Macon Transit Authority bus and a Subaru collided at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Cherry Street.

According to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s office, the driver of the Subaru was making a left turn from MLK onto Cherry Street when a bus traveling south on MLK hit the Subaru, flipping the car over. The bus then rolled on top of the car.

The driver and six passengers from the bus and the driver and passenger from the Subaru were transported to a local hospital, where they are all listed in stable condition.

The southbound lanes between Cherry and Poplar streets on MLK have been closed since the collision, which was called in to the 911 Center around 6 p.m. There is one lane that is open on the northbound side of MLK, according to the sheriff’s office.
