Dolphins coach on potential Lyles-Hill race: ‘Let’s get him on a divisional opponent’
The Tyreek Hill and Noah Lyles feud seems to have escalated.
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, however, could care less.
“Can we get a divisional opponent to sign Noah Lyles so I could actually care about the race?” McDaniel said Monday morning. “Because if it’s on the football field, I know those circumstances.”
Added McDaniel: “I appreciate the competitors being competitive. Let’s get him on a divisional opponent so the results of that race can actually matter.”
After Lyles’ back-to-back dismissal’s of Hill’s speed, the Cheetah’s response via X indicated that there actually might be a race in the future.
“Sign the contract and lock in that 50-yard race,” Hill wrote Sunday afternoon on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Many U.S. athletes have taken issue with Lyles’ 2023 comments in which he criticized American sports leagues that deem teams “world champions.” When Hill was asked about those comments on Aug. 12, he firmly stated he would beat Lyles in a race — just over a week after the latter won the men’s 100-meter dash at the Paris Olympics.
“I would beat Noah Lyles,” the Miami Dolphins receiver said to “Up & Adams” host Kay Adams before seemingly poking fun at Lyles’ decision to pull out of 400 relay due to his COVID-19 diagnosis. “And guess what: when I beat him, I’ll put on a COVID mask.”
A video of Lyles seemingly forgetting Hill’s name surfaced a few days later.
“The cheetah guy from football — I can’t remember his name,”Lyles said before asking someone off-camera “What’s the football player who thinks he’s fast’s name?”
The most recent fan to the flame occurred during the Saturday night release of Lyles’ appearance on “Nightcap.”
“Tyreek is just chasing clout,” Lyles said. “Any time somebody fast comes up, he says he wants to race him. If he really wanted to race people , he would’ve showed up like D.K. Metcalf.”
The mention of Metcalf alluded to the Seattle Seahawks star receiver who competed in the USA Track and Field Golden Games in 2021. Lyles, however, wasn’t finished.
Tyreek “dodges smoke; I don’t got time for that,” Lyles said. “If he’s truly serious about it… you’ll see me on the track.”
"If he's serious about it, not just talking on the internet ... if you're serious about it, you'll see me on track"

Though Hill might be the fastest player in the NFL, a race against Lyles might not turn out in his favor. Whoever finishes first at the Olympics’ 100-meter dash usually wins more than a gold medal; they also are bestowed the title “fastest man or woman in the world.”
