Aug. 22 update: The person went missing from the Haymarket Park area and was found by a state police K-9 in the wooded area near Airport Road, about 2/10 of a mile from the park. Ferguson Township police said they do not expect to release the person’s name or cause and manner of death. Police added that the investigation will likely be closed as there’s no indication of foul play or criminal acts, and declined to release additional details.

An unnamed 47-year-old person was found dead Saturday in a wooded area near Haymarket Park in Ferguson Township, and one township police officer told the CDT that no foul play was initially suspected.

The cause of death was not immediately released to the public, and the Centre County Coroner’s Office did not immediately return a message seeking comment. However, in a news release Saturday, the township stated that “there is no (imminent) danger to the general public.”

Sgt. Shawn Morrison also told the CDT that a preliminary investigation indicated “no foul play.” But, at this time, he added the department would not provide much more information.

The Ferguson Township Police Department is still investigating and is asking those who might have more information to contact them. The police can be reached at 1-800-479-0050.

The park, which is less than 2,000 feet from State College Borough, was open Saturday evening.

The deceased’s name has not yet been released.
