‘Dangerous weather.’ Fayette calls off school Friday. Other districts opt for NTI day.

Citing forecasts calling for “dangerous weather conditions,” Fayette County said public schools would be closed on Friday.

Several other districts in Central Kentucky also said schools would be closed, though many of them opted for NTI at-home instruction days, including Clark, Woodford, Jessamine, Madison and Scott counties.

Fayette County said it would cancel school, not use an NTI day. Bourbon County Schools also said they would be closed.

“New forecasts anticipate severe thunderstorms, possible tornadoes, and damaging winds with gusts as high as 60 miles per hour,” said Fayette County’s announcement. “The possibility of widespread power outages and flash flooding throughout the day will make travel conditions difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles like buses. We encourage you to be weather aware as conditions may change quickly throughout the day.”
