Dan Goldman scores endorsements of N.Y. Sen. Brad Hoylman and Grace Lee in NY-10 congressional dogfight

Dan Goldman has won the coveted endorsement of state Sen. Brad Hoylman and the backing of a key Chinatown leader in the crowded 10th Congressional District Democratic primary, the Daily News has learned.

Goldman, a former federal prosecutor who worked on the first impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, won praise from Hoylman (D-Manhattan) as the right person to hold “Trump and his acolytes like Rudy Giuliani” accountable for their misdeeds.

Grace Lee, the Democratic nominee for a Chinatown Assembly seat, echoed the pitch that Goldman would be a powerful voice in Congress to counter MAGA efforts to undermine democracy.

“We have to elect a Congress member who has the experience to fight the biggest threats to our democracy and fundamental rights,” Lee said.

Goldman is battling three main rivals in the primary: City Councilwoman Carlina Rivera (D-Manhattan), Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou (D-Manhattan) and Rep. Mondaire Jones, whose current district includes Rockland County and part of Westchester County.

Former Rep. Liz Holtzman (D-Brooklyn) and Assemblywoman Jo Anne Simon (D-Brooklyn) are also vying for the newly created district spanning lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn.

Voter turnout is expected to be very low in this rare late August primary next Tuesday, and the winner is all but certain to win the deep-blue seat, raising the urgency for the candidates to scrap for every vote.

Goldman continues to gain momentum in the crowded race going into the final week before Primary Day.

Hoylman, who represents the Village, among other areas, is the trailblazing first LGBTQ state senator in New York. The chairman of the state Senate Judiciary Committee, he briefly jumped into the 10th Congressional District primary himself before deciding to run for reelection instead.

Lee, meanwhile, won the Democratic primary to succeed Niou in Chinatown’s 65th Assembly District and is the overwhelming favorite to win against nominal GOP opposition in November. That makes her a valuable pickup for Goldman as he seeks to win support in the different communities across the very diverse district.

Goldman, the wealthy heir to the Levi Strauss clothing fortune, has likewise staked a claim as the most mainstream liberal candidate in the 10th District race, compared with rivals who proudly tout their progressive stances.

Polls show a tight race. Goldman led one recent survey, with Rivera, Niou and Jones at his heels.
