Curious what the new Blast Off Bay water park near Wichita has to offer? Check it out

Even before summer hits, Wichita-area residents will be able to go swimming, surfing and hot tubbing at Rodney Steven II’s new Blast Off Bay water park in Goddard.

The park opens to the public on March 4 at Steven’s 100-acre Genesis Sports Complex at 19800 W. Kellogg.

The closest equivalent to the park is Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City, but Steven said there’s nothing like Blast Off Bay’s surf machine for several hundred miles.

In addition to the dual surf machine, which allows two people to surf at once, there is a lazy river, a hot tub, a swim-up bar, a swimming area and 11 slides, including a couple that exit and re-enter the building.

There also is a toddler area, a splash zone, an arcade and a restaurant, and there are four rooms for private parties.

The name Blast Off Bay is a play off of several things. That includes all the aviation and space names for buildings in the Goddard school district and Wichita’s status as the Air Capital of the World. The aerospace theme even borrows a bit from Hutchinson’s Cosmosphere.

The park is connected to the complex’s natatorium, and water park guests will have access to a four-lane warm-up pool when swim meets aren’t happening.

Blast Off Bay also is connected to a Hampton Inn.

There are some private events happening at the park in the next couple of weeks, and then there will be a soft opening to the public on March 4 followed by a grand opening celebration later.
