Couple gets stuck in snow on drive with dog, AZ cops say. They were rescued days later

A missing couple and their dog were found safe after their truck got stuck in the snow, Arizona authorities said.

The couple, a 79-year-old man and 77-year-old woman, were headed home from a “drive to Palace Station” on Jan. 31 when they got “trapped in the ice and snowy road,” the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a Thursday, Feb. 2, Facebook post.

The couple and their dachshund, Daphnee, spent two nights stranded in the snow, the sheriff’s office said.

“Fortunately, they stayed put, conserved their fuel, and had food and water which helped the search effort and their safety immensely,” deputies said.

Multiple agencies, “including 20 volunteers,” searched about 1,300 miles of roadway, according to the sheriff’s office.

After being found, both were airlifted out of the area, while Daphnee was driven out by volunteers, deputies said.

“They are all now safe and sound,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said those traveling outdoors should be “cautious and prepared.”

“We cannot stress enough to bring adequate food, water, maps/GPS (preferably of the area being adventured), flashlights, battery life for cell phones, clothing layers, and sun protection,” deputies said.

Palace Stations is located in Kirkland, about 90 miles northwest of Phoenix.
