Could there be a ‘Stranger Things’ Red Wedding? Not so fast, Duffer Brothers say

Netflix

The Duffer Brothers, co-creators of the Netflix hit series “Stranger Things,” have responded to comments made by Millie Bobby Brown calling for more deaths on the show.

The remarks by Brown, who plays Eleven in the series, were made in May in an interview with The Wrap. She said she trusts The Duffer Brothers’ creative process but noted they should “start killing people off.”

“The Duffer Brothers are two sensitive Sallies who don’t want kill anyone off,” she said. “We need to be ‘Game of Thrones.’ We need to have the mindset of ‘Game of Thrones.’ Kill me off.”

Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, agreed with Brown and urged the creators to have “one massacre scene where half the cast dies.”

But, as the Duffer Brothers said in July 4 episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, “This is Hawkins. It’s not Westeros.”

“The show becomes not ‘Stranger Things’ anymore, because you do have to treat it realistically, right?” Matt Duffer said in the podcast. “So even when Barb dies (in Season 1), it’s two seasons worth of grappling with that, so imagine Mike (hypothetically) dying, is that something we’re interested in exploring or not interested in exploring?”

As the show progresses to its last season, more deaths are “on the table,” Matt Duffer added.

“This is me basically defending myself against these Millie Bobby Brown accusations and explaining that there is logic behind it, and it’s nothing to do with my sensitivity,” he jokingly said. “So there you go, Millie.”

A fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” was confirmed in February, but filming has not started.

The plot for Season 5 is being kept under wraps, but Ross Duffer told The Wrap that it was enough to make Netflix executives cry.

“We do have an outline for Season 5 and we pitched it to Netflix and they really responded well to it,” Ross Duffer said. “I mean, it was hard. It’s the end of the story. I saw executives crying who I’ve never seen cry before and it was wild.”
