On Wednesday afternoon, a report about high school football star Quinn Ewers had the college football world buzzing.

According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, Ewers is “leaning” toward skipping his senior year of high school and attending Ohio State.

“I don’t really know, I don’t have a final decision made quite yet,” Ewers told Thamel, via Yahoo Sports. “I’m leaning toward leaving and going up to Ohio, just so I don’t have to deal with UIL stuff and can get comfortable with Ohio and Columbus and start to learn.”

Of course, that sparked plenty of reaction on social media. It would be an unprecedented move for a player to leave high school early just to take advantage of the NIL rules.

Here was some of the reaction from around social media.

“It’s a new world we’re living in and hoo boy, that can of worms is wide open for Quinn Ewers, who is considered the top QB recruit in the country,” NFL insider Mike Garafolo said.

Some Ohio State fans pointed out the possibility that Ewers could even start for the Buckeyes this fall if he joined the team.

While it’s an unprecedented move following NIL rules, the football world has seen this done in the past.

There have been plenty of athletes who reclassified in order to leave high school early and join their respective college teams.
