If you’ve ever watched Colin Cowherd, you know he loves analogies and comparisons. The FS1 host revealed one today for the Phoenix Suns.

The Suns are up 2-0 on the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference Finals after last night’s dramatic win. A team that hadn’t made the playoffs in 11 years is now two wins away from the NBA Finals.

According to Cowherd, this year’s Suns team has a lot in common with a recent Super Bowl champion. He thinks Phoenix’s rise is comparable to that of the 2013 Seattle Seahawks.

“Like the Phoenix Suns, they had no recent history of dominating. The year before, the Seahawks were 6-5 until they got hot and made the playoffs and then got bounced,” Cowherd said. “They weren’t great the year before and then the next year you’re watching them and going ‘What the hell? That’s the fastest defense I’ve ever seen in my life.'”

For Cowherd, the explanation for the Seahawks’ dominance and the Suns’ surge is identical.

“How did they [the Seahawks] go from good to the best team I’ve seen in a decade?” Cowherd asked. “Why? Because they had this great leader Russell Wilson and all their young players started peaking at the exact same moment and they had the right coach who made it work.”

In this analogy, Chris Paul is presumably Russell Wilson and Monty Williams is Pete Carroll. Players like Deandre Ayton and Devin Booker can be likened to Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Bobby Wagner and others from that Seahawks title team.

Will this Phoenix group wind up matching Seattle’s success? We’ll have to wait and find out.
