Cobras take down Red Hawks

Dec. 2—Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute outscored Catawba Valley Community College by 29 points in the second half to earn a 115-86 victory Wednesday night in Hudson to sweep the home-and-home series against the Red Hawks.

Behind strong three-point shooting, Catawba Valley led 17-7 with 16:02 left in the first half, but the Cobras chipped away at the Red Hawk's lead and took a 30-29 lead at the 7:57 mark off a field goal from Cincere Scott.

Caldwell opened the second half with a 4-0 run to take a 52-48 lead before Catawba Valley responded with a 6-0 run to pull ahead 54-52 lead with 18:04 remaining in the game.

The Cobras went on a 20-5 run to take control of the game and led 72-59 at the 14-minute mark.

Catawba Valley cut the Cobras' lead down to 10 points with 13:45 remaining but could not get any closer as the Cobras pulled away for their sixth win of the season.

Torrence Horton led the Cobras in scoring with 21 points.

Three other Cobras scored in double figures, Saiquone Harris had 15 points, Scott ended the game with 13 points, and Chris Nobles finished with 11 points.

Catawba Valley's Malik Hamrick scored a game-high 22 points, while Tre Hill had 21 points, Evan Presnell scored 16 points, and Benton Wofford had 14 points.
