Strong showers, storms pass through Chicago area

CHICAGO - A round of showers and thunderstorms moved through the Chicago area Sunday morning and early evening.

Several tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for multiple areas, including McHenry and Lake Ill. The warnings all expired by 7:30 p.m.

The severe weather threat was lower in the morning. The second round of storms developed around 4 p.m. However, this afternoon's weather was highly dependent on the timing of this morning's storms. The longer the early rain and cloud cover lasted, the less likely we were to have stronger storms late in the afternoon.

Temperatures barely reached 70 degrees with cooler conditions continuing Monday and Tuesday.

There was a brief ground stop at O'Hare Airport Sunday morning. Departures resumed by 10:45 a.m.
