Chicago Bears Announce Starting QB For Game vs. Browns

Chicago Bears quarterback Andy Dalton was injured in Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals. With a game against the Cleveland Browns looming, Bears head coach Matt Nagy is making a change.

On Wednesday, Nagy announced that rookie No. 11 overall pick Justin Fields will get the starting nod against Cleveland. It will be his first NFL start.

Fields finished Sunday’s game against the Bengals, but didn’t do much on offense with his limited reps. He went 6 of 13 for 60 yards and an interception, leading the team to three points offensively.

Dalton won’t even be holding the clipboard in the game by the looks of it. Third-string quarterback Nick Foles will reportedly be the No. 2 option in that game.

The Chicago Bears traded up to take Justin Fields No. 11 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft following a historic career at Ohio State. But despite investing in Fields long term, they balked at naming him the starter.

The experienced Dalton was dubbed “QB1” from the get-go, and the Bears never wavered from that stance.

However, circumstances beyond anyone’s control have put Fields in the driver’s seat. And if he thrives against Browns this coming week, it may be harder to plug Dalton back in than Nagy will likely admit.
