CCBOE approves additions, renovations to Fairview High School

Dec. 15—The Cullman County Board of Education has now accepted a previously rejected $2.6 million bid for additions and renovations at Fairview High School.

The amount came in more than the original budget for the project causing the board to reject the bid in May. On Thursday, Dec. 14, Superintendent Shane Barnette said the board has since been awarded $1 million in various grants it can apply to the project.

Barnette said he spoke with the contractor, Blalock Building Company, earlier this week and received confirmation the original quote would be honored.

Exact details, such as the projected start date, for the project weren't provided except to say the FHS Home Economics/Agriculture center would be expanded and remodeled.

Blalock Building Company is currently constructing the new Home Economics/Agriculture center at Hanceville High School.

School board representative for the Fairview/Parkside district Shane Rusk expressed his gratitude for the board's dedication to the project.

"I appreciate that. There was definitely a bit of sticker-shock when that bid came through and I know it took a lot of work from you [Barnette], the team here and our local delegation and everybody working together to get that done," Rusk said.

Barnette said the project would also be supplemented by roughly $100,000 remaining in the board's state issued bond which covered projects at Good Hope Middle School and Hanceville Elementary School.
