Burglars emptied safe at Mikuni in midtown, owner says. Sacramento police investigating

Mikuni, a popular capital region sushi chain, was burglarized this week after at least two suspects cleaned out a safe at its midtown location, according to the restaurant’s owner and Sacramento police.

Officers were called just after 8:30 a.m. Monday to Mikuni at 1530 J St. for a report of a burglary, said Officer Anthony Gamble, a Sacramento Police Department spokesperson.

Gamble declined to say how much or what was taken from the restaurant to protect the investigation.

Taro Arai, Mikuni’s owner, posted on social media photos of two people wearing black clothing in what appeared to be the restaurant’s kitchen. Arai could not be reached for comment.

But on social media, Arai wrote a list of positive lessons he took from the incident. He was grateful no one was hurt, and he vowed to heighten security measures in an effort to be more vigilant.

Arai also thanked the community for its support.

“It’s a good reminder that material things are replaceable, but the well-being of people and the value of experiences are what truly count,” Arai wrote on social media.
