Bullies are threatening civil war for Trump. But they’re really the scared ones | Opinion

Bullies are afraid

I read that some people who support the former president are threatening their fellow U.S. citizens with a civil war. Those who make these threats are entitled to the First Amendment right of freedom of speech, as outlined in the Constitution’s Bill of Rights.

An honest reply to those folks: I was raised in Kansas by parents who were born in the United States, and I support freedom of speech. However, those who threaten civil war need to be reminded that other citizens do not support anyone breaking the law without accountability. Going to war by exercising their Second Amendment rights — an amendment they might use because they don’t like others using the First Amendment so readily — threatens the fearful, elderly, young and every other person who hears their words.

Despite your threats, I will use my freedom of speech, which is one thing self-righteous, self-centered bullies don’t tolerate. Please talk on, but be advised that you will always be bullies, afraid of those of us who speak the truth.

Just read it

I would ask Republicans to actually read the indictment of Donald Trump, or at least look at the photos released by the Justice Department, before declaring as usual that there is absolutely no Trump outrage that could sway their undying devotion.

The photos show a multitude of boxes of alleged classified and secret documents that include nuclear secrets, key military intelligence and other information critical to our national security. The boxes are stacked on a ballroom stage, in a bathroom by a shower and toilet, and in various storage rooms in Mar-a-Lago. The National Archives tried to recover the documents for many months, but Trump continually lied and obstructed their return.

When the government finally had to retrieve them, Trump still lied and declared he’d returned everything, while there were other boxes that he’d removed and hidden elsewhere. He allegedly showed top-secret documents to several people who did not have clearance to view them.

It is amazing that Republican leaders still shield and protect Trump no matter how many crimes he commits or insurrections he orchestrates.

Our Council picks

Sunrise Movement KC calls on Kansas City voters to elect Jenay Manley for City Council 2nd District at large, Johnathan Duncan for 6th District and Michael Kelley for 5th District at large. With their opposition endorsed and funded by Spire, the Fraternal Order of Police, corporate PACs and out-of-state developers, the choice is clear: Some candidates stand with young people and our futures, and some do not.

We are young people organizing for a Green New Deal at all levels of government. Jenay, Jonathan and Michael are the obvious choices, as they will be a part of a historic coalition fighting for everyday people, not for entities looking to leech our tax money for the next several decades. Part of our endorsement includes candidates signing the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge and promising to prioritize the health of our communities by refusing donations from utility monopoly, oil and gas executives.

We have a vision where everyone — especially our historically excluded Black and brown communities, the poor and the working class — has better access to affordable housing, free and robust public transit, good union jobs, clean air and water, green spaces and sustainably grown local food.

Join us in making history and delivering a better future for all. Vote Jenay, Johnathan and Michael on June 20.

Even more benefits

It is very likely that electric battery-powered buses can be manufactured to look exactly like, ride like and make the same noises as streetcars. But these vehicles also could carry passengers wherever existing streets or trails go.
