The Tampa Bay Buccaneers parted ways with rookie offensive tackle Calvin Ashley on Thursday morning, opening up a roster spot just in time for the second week of training camp.

Ashley was released by the Buccaneers after he left the squad. At this time, it’s unclear why he left the team in the first place.

“Rookie offensive tackle Calvin Ashley left the squad and was subsequently waived,” the Buccaneers said in a statement.

Ashley was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Florida A&M. His chances of making the roster were most likely slim considering Tampa Bay is already loaded with talent at offensive tackle.

Buccaneers reporter Greg Auman provided a potential reason as to why Ashley may have left the team.

“No, he left first, then got waived,” Auman tweeted when asked about Tampa Bay’s recent move. “Haven’t heard why, but sometimes a player just decides he isn’t going to make it and walks away.”

The Buccaneers have off this Thursday and will resume practice on Friday. Maybe then we’ll find out a little bit more about Ashley’s situation and why he left the team this early in training camp.

Tampa Bay is expected to sign another offensive lineman to replace Ashley.
