Britney Spears Is Back! The Singer Debuts New Single Featuring Elton John

Oops, she did it again…Britney Spears just released a new single with Elton John titled “Hold Me Closer.”

The new song is now available to listen to across all streaming platforms. The “Toxic” singer lent her vocals to the track, which included lyrics from John’s 1971 song “Tiny Dancer” and 1992’s “The One.” The single cover features old snapshots of Spears and John from their childhoods. (Holy throwback.)

In a new interview with The Guardian, John shared that someone very close to him inspired the collaboration with Spears: his husband, David Furnish. “[David] said it would be wonderful for Britney Spears to do it,” the singer told the outlet. “I said, ‘That’s a pretty amazing idea.’ She hadn’t done anything for so long. I’d been following what's been happening to her for a long time.”

John continued, “She sang fantastically. Everyone was saying they don’t think she can sing anymore. But I said, she was brilliant when she started so I think she can. And she did it, and I was so thrilled with what she did.”

Before the single dropped, Spears took to Twitter to celebrate its release, sharing how this is her first song in six years. She wrote in the tweet, “Okie dokie … My first song in 6 years !!!! It’s pretty damn cool that I’m singing with one of the most classic men of our time … @eltonofficial !!!! I’m kinda overwhelmed… It’s a big deal to me !!! I’m meditating more and learning my space is valuable and precious !!!

Don’t mind us, we’re just listening to “Hold Me Closer” on repeat over here.
