Briar Ridge Way triple shooting: 1 dead, police seek motive

ATLANTA - Three people were shot, one killed, in a shooting at a southwest Atlanta residence on Monday afternoon.

It happened at a home along Briar Ridge Way SW in the Briar Glen subdivision.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, three people were injured in the shooting with one being rushed to the hospital in critical condition. That person later died.

The two others were speaking to medics at the scene.

Few details have been released, but the call came in about the shooting just before 4:40 p.m. Monday.

The names of those involved have not been released.

A motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

"I was very shocked, and I was anxious to find out what is going on," said Camilla Martin, who has lived off Briar Glen Lane for 30 years with her husband. "This is the first time I've ever seen that here in 30 years."

Jobie Martin says he likes to keep an eye on things in the neighborhood. He was out on his porch enjoying a glass of iced tea when he said two unfamiliar cars came racing into his neighborhood.

"All of a sudden, I seen this gray old pickup truck just flying down the street up towards the cul-de-sac, back up the hill. And next thing you know, there was a black, shiny pickup truck behind it, and I said ‘well maybe they're chasing each other’...then all of a sudden, I heard ‘pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow!’ So, I got out the phone and I dialed 911," Jobie Martin said.

Burnett says he also saw a third car that was involved, that car returned to the cul-de-sac shortly after the shooting.

"I saw another car that I had just seen leave the neighborhood, come back, and they looked like they were grabbing something off the ground, and then they took off," Burnett said.

It appeared one of the cars may have run over a mailbox on Briar Ridge Way.

While the Martins are shocked and saddened to see people bring violence into their peaceful neighborhood, they're hoping everyone recovers.

"We don't know who they are, but we are going to pray for them because God knows who they are. We're going to pray for them and their families," Camilla Martin said.
