BernCo treasurer's office issues warning against third party payments

Feb. 27—The Bernalillo County Treasurer's Office has issued a warning to residents discouraging the use of third party online payment companies, also known as digital wallets, to pay their property taxes.

DOXO, a third-party digital wallet, has been attempting to pass themselves off as an affiliate of the BernCo website, according to a press release sent by Bernalillo County.

Because DOXO is not affiliated with BernCO, they are not able to control when a payment is received or if correct information has been listed, which may result in penalties or interest being added. The site may also charge additional fees that are not found on the BernCo website.

BernCo's online payments are free. There may be a small credit card processing fee, but payments to the site are secured and encrypted for better protection.

The Treasurer's Office recommends using its own free, safe and secure online payment portal.

You can always search your property tax at www.bernco.gov/treasurer to check your payment.
