BCBHOF hosts induction ceremony

Jul. 20—LEBANON — The Boone County Basketball Hall of Fame held its induction ceremony for the Class of 2022 on Saturday at Ulen Country Club.

Hall of Fame Vice President started the afternoon off, and showed some newly acquired trophies that will be displayed in the Thorntown Historical Museum.

The inductees or their representative into the Boone County Basketball Hall of Fame gave appreciative and inspiring acceptance speeches about their basketball career memories.

The BCBHOF also displayed a poster with pictures of the 17 scholarship recipients, along with many other basketball items such as sweaters, shoes, jerseys, pictures and books.

To date, the BCBHOF has awarded $8,500 in its 3 1/2 years of existence.

The following were inducted on Saturday:

Inductees were: Dick Bramblett (Lebanon 1946), one of Lebanon's leading scorers in 1945 and 1946; Mike Caldwell (Lebanon, 1967), the leading scorer ion Lebanon's 1967 team, and second in scoring as a junior behind Rick Mount; Bennie Devol (Lebanon, 1923), Lebanon's first 1,000-point scorer and Lebanon's all-time leading scorer until Rick Mount surpassed him; George Johnson (Zionsville, 1965), Zionsville's leading scorer in 1965 and fourth-leading scorer in school history; Bryon Linton (Thorntown, 1960), one of Thorntown's all-time leading scorers and helped the Keewasakees win three County championships and two sectional titles; Frank "Doc" Little (Lebanon, 1917), first-team all-state selection for Lebanon's 1917 title team; Kent Poole (Western Boone, 1982), leading scorer for the Stars' 1982 team that won the regional title and starred as "Merle" in the movie "Hoosiers"; Max Price (Thorntown, 1953), coached Pinnell to the 1962 sectional title; Mick Pyle (Zionsville, 1972), leading scorer on the 1972 Eagles and fifth all-time leading scorer; Jami Sloan (Lebanon, 1990), Lebanon's first female Indiana All-Stars and graduated with 13 school records; Tom Wethington (Granville Wells, 1964), helped lead Granville Wells to the 1963 sectional title and three county championships.

All Boone County players, coaches, officials, and fan enthusiasts may be considered for future induction. (Closed or consolidated schools are Advance, Dover, Granville Wells/Jackson Twp., Jamestown, Perry Central, Pinnell, Thorntown & Whitestown. Active schools are Lebanon, Traders Point, Western Boone & Zionsville.) The submission deadline for 2023 nominations is December 31, 2022.

Membership is $20 per calendar year and that form may be obtained the same as the Induction form.

The BCBHOF is hosting their second annual golf outing on Friday, July 22 at Cool Lake. The fundraiser is to support the HOF's scholarship fund.
