Average gas prices rise slightly; electric price on par with national average

Aug. 19—The average price of regular unleaded gas in New Mexico increased by 5 cents last week, landing at $3.30, but still 48 cents less per gallon than the same time last year.

The Santa Fe area experienced a slightly bigger increase of 11 cents, rising from $3.20 two weeks ago to $3.31 last week.

Farmington drivers were paying the most last week, with an average price of $3.43 per gallon, 1 cent below last week's national average of $3.44. Las Cruces drivers were paying the least of New Mexico's major metropolitan areas at $3.28 per gallon.

New Mexico's average cost for a kilowatt of electricity at a level two commercial charging station last week was 33 cents, close to last week's national average of 34 cents.

According to a news release from AAA New Mexico Weekend Gas Watch, "Tepid gasoline demand and stable oil costs may cause pump prices to slide further."
