ASU football's Kenny Dillingham coach hire earns rave reviews: 'Home-run addition'
The Arizona State football team has a new head coach and the Kenny Dillingham hire is mainly earning rave reviews from college football writers and the ASU community.
Check out what they are saying about the Sun Devis' new coach, who comes to Tempe after spending a season as the Oregon Ducks' offensive coordinator.
Sportsnaut: Kenny Dillingham hire a 'home-run addition' for Arizona State
Matt Johnson wrote: "Calling plays for the Oregon Ducks’ offense and working one-on-one with Bo Nix, the 32-year-old only strengthened his resume. Oregon ranked fourth in yards per game (507.8), averaged 39.7 points per game and Bo Nix set career-highs in quarterback rating (167.4), yards per attempt (9.0), completion rate (71.7%) and total touchdowns (42). It’s a home-run addition for Arizona State and stands out as one of the best college football coaching hires in this cycle."

PFF.com: Kenny Dillingham among 'top offensive minds' in football
Max Chadwick wrote: "Dillingham is also very familiar with the Sun Devils. He graduated from Arizona State in 2012 and worked as an offensive assistant with the team for a few years. He might not be as experienced as other candidates, but Dillingham is quickly becoming one of the top offensive minds in the sport."

Overtime Heroics: Arizona State fanbase should embrace Kenny Dillingham hire
Kurt Breidenstein wrote: "The Sun Devils decide to go the coordinator route with the hiring of Oregon offensive coordinator and former ASU alum Kenny Dillingham. This will be the first time in Arizona State history that an alumnus will be at the helm of the program. Dillingham takes over for the fired former NFL coach Herm Edwards. Dillingham states that this is his “dream job” as he is a Scottsdale native for many years. He is also now the youngest FBS head coach at 32 years of age. He will be bringing back the interim coach in Shaun Aguano for the coming season and will have to face the impending NCAA infractions that occured under Herm Edwards tenure. Its always a risk to hire someone this young with no head coaching experience but being an alum should help the fanbase embrace the hire."
Forbes: Kenny Dillinhgham may be young, but he has experience
Tom Layberger writes: "Though young, Dillingham is no spring chicken in that he boasts nearly a decade of coaching experience at the FBS level. He started as an assistant at ASU in 2014 under Todd Graham, whose offensive coordinator was Norvell. Dillingham followed Norvell to Memphis when the latter became the Tigers’ head coach in 2016. Two years later, Dillingham was an offensive coordinator at age 27. He split from Norvell to run Auburn’s offense under Gus Malzahn in 2019, which proved beneficial this season in reuniting with quarterback Bo Nix at Oregon."
Moore:Kenny Dillingham is too young for the Arizona State job. And? So what?

So, I finally got around to watching Kenny Dillingham’s introductory presser. Now listen, I don’t wanna exaggerate, but I’m now fairly certain Arizona State is going to win at least 17 national titles under that man.
Good Lord, that fired me up.— Jack Crosby (@JCrosbyCBS) November 29, 2022
Kenny Dillingham was the right hire for Arizona State. He loves the program, offensive mind, young, energetic and has been around winning coaches throughout his career. I think that was a no brainer for them.

Not everyone was super impressed by ASU's Kenny Dillingham hire, however:
CBS Sports' Barrett Sallee gave Arizona State a C+ grade for its head coaching hire.
He wrote: "Dillingham is an Arizona State alum who has never served as a head coach. He has a lot of upside, but Arizona State is counting on a very young leader -- 32 years old -- to navigate through some NCAA issues while building the program back."
