ArtesMiami will announce $60,000 in grants to documentary filmmakers of Cuban-American origin or who are producing work about the Cuban diaspora at an event on Nov. 10 at Manolis Projects Gallery.

The recipients will be awarded at an event that will be attended by trustees and directors of Perez Art Museum Miami, artists and collectors. The event will also officially recognize the new chair of ArtesMiami, Maria Bechily.

‘The future is promising.’ ArtesMiami elects new chair to board of directors

It was announced in June that Bechily would take over the position as Chair of the Board of Directors of ArtesMiami Inc., a nonprofit organization that supports and promotes the work of Cuban-American artists and cultural institutions.

“I am honored to have been chosen by the board to preside over such a prestigious nonprofit group as ArtesMiami,” Bechily told El Nuevo Herald in an interview. “The programs and artists that ArtesMiami supports are critical to strengthening Miami’s position as an international center for art and culture. I look forward to providing strategic leadership to our board so that we can further develop the organization.”

ArtesMiami has been led by publicist and philanthropist Aida Levitan, Ph.D. and has donated more than $2.7 million in in-kind services and cash to cultural organizations and artists, primarily in South Florida.
