Andy Murray finds missing wedding ring stolen after smelly shoe debacle

The saga, thankfully, is over.

Andy Murray, after asking for help finding his missing wedding ring after an unfortunate — and smelly — situation at the Indian Wells Masters, has the band back in his possession.

Murray took to social media on Thursday to explain how his tennis shoes and ring were stolen. He said he returned to his hotel room from dinner on Wednesday night and his shoes were "damp, sweaty and smelly." So instead of allowing them to continue stinking up the room, he decided they needed some air for the upcoming matches.

Without a balcony attached to his room he left the shoes under the car overnight. When he went to fetch them in the morning they were gone. At first, he thought nothing of it other than it being a minor inconvenience.

"I had to go to the pro shop to buy different shoes to what I normally wear, different brand and everything" he said on the Instagram video. "Which isn't the end of the world but obviously not ideal."

But then he arrived at practice and his physio asked where his wedding ring was since it wasn't on his finger.

"I was like 'Oh no.' I tie my wedding ring to my tennis shoes when I'm playing because I can't play with it on my hand," Murray said. "So yeah, my wedding ring has been stolen as well. Needless to say I'm in the bad books at home. So I want to try and find it. So if anyone can share this or may have any clue where they ay be would be very helpful so I can try and get it back. It would be much appreciated."

Murray added in the caption:

"Yes I know I'm an idiot and in hindsight it seems like a terrible idea but I need some help." He included a sideways laughing emoji and asked what the reward should be for anyone who returns it.

Thankfully, hours later, Murray posted an update. His ring had been returned.

"I had to make a few calls today and chat with the security at the hotel and everything," Murray said. "A little update for everyone. Would you believe it? They still absolutely stink, but the shoes are back. The wedding ring is back. And I’m back in the good books. Let’s go!”

Murray married Kim Sears in 2015. His mother, Judy Murray, responded to the Instagram post with a simple face-palm emoji. The Tennis Channel had some fun with the missing shoes part.

The three-time Grand Slam winner is scheduled to face Adrian Mannarino in the first round of the tournament on Friday.
