American Airlines customers can still fly direct from CLT to these tropical locations
American Airlines confirmed on Monday that a direct flight route to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico will soon be dropped from the airline’s schedule at Charlotte Douglas International airport, The Charlotte Observer recently reported.
The airline had initially offered the flight once a week, but a spokesperson for American Airlines explained that the route was failing to meet “expectations.” Thus, the direct route from CLT to PVR will cease starting on Jan. 10, 2023
The change will take effect during the time of year when travelers are craving warmer weather conditions. Although Puerto Vallarta won’t be an option for much longer, American Airlines still offers a few direct flights out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport to more tropical destinations.
Here are four tropical locations you can jet off to directly from Charlotte:
San Juan, Puerto Rico
By way of American Airlines’ CLT to SJU route, passengers can endure a moderate 3-hour direct flight from Charlotte, North Carolina to the white, sandy beaches of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Cancun, Mexico
Although direct routes to PVR are being dropped, passengers can still find their way to pristine Mexican beaches by taking American’s nonstop route from CLT to CUN. Cancun, Mexico is only a 3-hour flight away from Charlotte.
Aruba
If you’re searching for something with more tropical flair, look no further than the Caribbean island nation of Aruba. You can fly nonstop to AUA from CLT and the flight will only last for about four hours.
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
Lastly, American Airlines’ quick, 3-hour flight from CLT to GCM will be available for transporting travelers from Charlotte to breezes in the Cayman Islands.
