Adopted from Belleville shelter, IL cat in running to be Cadbury Bunny. Vote for him now

A therapy cat adopted from the Belleville Area Humane Society is competing for the honor of serving as the 2024 Cadbury Bunny, and he’s one of 16 finalists in the running.

Rorschach was adopted from BAHS in 2022, the Riverfront Times reported, and passed his test to become a therapy cat after adoption. While therapy cats aren’t nearly as common as therapy dogs, outgoing felines can be just as effective as dogs in providing comfort, according to an article from UC Davis Veterinary Medicine.

Rorschach lives in Columbia, Ill., according to his profile on the Cadbury USA Instagram account. Voting takes place through brackets on Instagram stories @cadburyusa.

If Rorschach makes it through the “Creme 16,” he will continue on to compete in the “Eggcellent 8” March 18. You can vote on the “Final Fur” March 20 and the Championship Match March 22, and the winning Cadbury Bunny will be announced March 25.

The BAHS was not immediately available for comment via email.

Adoptable cats at the Belleville Area Humane Society

If you’re looking for your own Belleville Area Humane Society cat to dress up as a bunny (if they are so willing), the shelter has nine felines posted on its website as available for adoption as of Thursday.

Here are a few of the cats available for adoption from BAHS:

Weight: 13.06 lbs

Age: 1 year and 11 months old

Sex: M

This laid-back cat has a heart as big as his “charming chunkiness,” BAHS says. He enjoys lounging around the house and is listed as being good with other cats.

Not all animals available through BAHS are located onsite. Some may be at Petsmart stores, foster homes or other locations. You can call ahead to check with BAHS staff to check if you can meet the pet you are interested in adopting.

All animals from the BAHS are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated against rabies as well as tested for heartworm. Cats are also vaccinated against FVRCP (which protects against feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia) and tested for FIV/FeLV. Cats and kittens cost $125 to adopt, while specialty breed cats are priced at $450.

You can stop by the humane society between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday to meet adoptable animals. You don’t need to fill out an application or make an appointment beforehand.
