Aaron Rodgers Had Very Telling Admission On Matt LaFleur

A strong point of contention between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers organization has been a lack of communication.

Rodgers has long expressed his desire to be more involved in the team’s decision making process. And on Wednesday, the reigning league MVP made that fact even more abundantly clear.

“This wasn’t a Draft day thing,” the Packers QB said, per NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo. “It started with a conversation in February. I just expressed my desire to be involved in conversations directly affecting my job.”

According to Rodgers, he was kept in the dark on multiple team-altering decisions: the drafting of QB Jordan Love in 2020, the cutting of wide receiver Jake Kumerow during last years training camp and the hiring of head coach Matt LaFleur in 2019.

The biggest of these decisions was no doubt the hiring of LaFleur. And while Rodgers says he’s happy with his head coach, the franchise’s decision to not include him in the discussion showed his role was viewed as “just play.”

“I love Matt, we’ve had a blast and I’m glad he’s here,” Rodgers said, per Garafolo.

Heading into his 17th season as a Packer with three league MVPs, three All-Pro selections and a Super Bowl victory under his belt, you’d think the Green Bay organization would be more willing to keep their superstar in the loop.

Rodgers denied a longterm contract extension earlier this offseason when the Packers front office “tried to throw some money” at him. He said that his involvement in the organization is about more than money.

After skipping out on all voluntary workouts, OTAs and mandatory minicamp earlier this offseason, Rodgers showed up for Packers training camp on Tuesday.
