5 things to do this weekend in Boise: Party with Chicks, dunk at BAM Jam, smoke salmon

With temperatures in the low 90s, this weekend looks like a reprieve before things hit triple digits Monday. Go have fun. The entertainment calendar is packed with tons of events and things to do.

2. Eat smoked salmon

Is anything better than smoked salmon? The Meridian Firefighters Salmon BBQ might lure a few bears Friday to Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park, 1900 N. Records Ave., in Meridian. The menu includes applewood-smoked salmon, fries, coleslaw and rolls for adults and hot dogs, soda, milk and water for the kids. All proceeds go to the Meridian Firefighters Local 4627 Benevolent Fund and the Meridian Burn-Out Fund. It costs $20 general, $10 children 6-12, and children 5 and younger eat free. Seniors will be served first at 5 p.m. and everyone else at 6 p.m. Grab tickets at Meridian City Hall, Meridian Fire Station No. 1, Meridian Fire Station No. 2, Express Cafe, and Meridian Chamber of Commerce.

3. Watch ‘em go fast

Speaking of smells, burned rubber will fill the air at Firebird Raceway. The Nightfire Nationals are back. Gates open at 8 a.m. with sportsman racing at 12:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday, professional Nitro qualifying at 8 p.m. Friday and at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, followed by final eliminations at 2 p.m. Sunday. Firebird Raceway is 5 miles north of Idaho 44 on Idaho 16, northwest of Eagle. Entry is $5-$35. Information: (208) 938-8986.

4. Watch sports

High-flying athletes will play serious (and not-so-serious) hoops at Summer BAM Jam, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for youth teams on Friday and Saturday, and adult teams Saturday and Sunday. It’s at Indian Creek Plaza, 120 S. Kimball Ave., in Caldwell.

Boise Hawks baseball will take over Memorial Stadium, 5600 N. Glenwood St., all weekend in Garden City. The Hawks welcome the Idaho Falls Chukars at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on a warm Sunday afternoon. Tickets are $9-$15. (208) 322-5000.

5. Horror time
