Rising sophomore linebacker Sammy Brown is the lone player in the 2024 recruiting cycle offered by Clemson and it may be a while before any other prospect from that class is extended an offer from the Tigers

Well known for being as meticulous as any program in the country in how it handles its recruiting process under coach Dabo Swinney, it's an absolute rarity to see Clemson offer anybody prior to the end of their sophomore seasons.

In comparison with Clemson's one offer to current rising sophomores, national champion Georgia has offered 86 prospects in that class, Alabama has 42 offers and South Carolina has 71 offers out.

Here's what to know about Brown (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) who already holds many offers from some of the nation's most highly regarded programs.

Brown is versatile as an athlete not only in football, but also other sports

He played regular snaps at Jefferson (Ga.) High School this past freshman season at both linebacker (where he posted 42 tackles and a sack) and running back (rushing for 753 yards and 11 touchdowns).

He won the Georgia state wrestling championship in the 220-pound division last month with the championship match taking under a minute. Last year he won the 400-meter state championship where his best is 50.50. He's also posted a 10.92 at 100 meters during a meet.

Many Power Five heavyweights are already in pursuit despite his youth

Clemson was the last to offer Brown from an impressive list of suitors that includes South Carolina, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Auburn, Mississippi, Tennessee, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Georgia Tech.

He's been attending Clemson summer football camp for years

Brown has shown up to be tutored during summertime from Tigers staff and players since he was 10-years-old. He was one of the first players offered by former longtime Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables just two weeks after taking the head coaching job at Oklahoma. Former longtime Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott was also quick to offer once he took over the top job at Virginia.

He was caught off guard by receiving a Clemson offer so early in the process

“It was really shocking because they never offer sophomores,” Brown told On3.com's Jeremy Johnson. “I just thought I was going to meet coach (Dabo) Swinney just to meet him. We came in there and he started kind of hinting that he was about to offer me and then he offered me. I didn’t even know what to say.”

He's former teammates with a 5-star recruit who had Clemson in final 3

Former Jefferson, Georgia five-star safety Malaki Starks played with Brown last season and could likely provide some valuable advice about the recruiting process moving forward.

Very few players nationally were as sought after as Starks, who eventually decided to remain in state when he signed with Georgia over finalists Clemson and Alabama.
